Safety At Home
Never smoke in bed (better yet, don't smoke at all).
If you have fireplaces, keep screens in front of them.
When cooking, protect against tipping and burns by positioning pan handles so that they do not extend over the edge of the stove.
If you own a gun, keep it unloaded, separate from the ammunition, and in a locked place.
Be sure all the carpeting is held firmly, with no ragged spots or edges, and that loose rugs are placed to minimize the risk of sliding or tripping.
Be sure all stairways, hallways, and other passages are well lighted.
Never leave anything on the stairs.
If you spill or drop something that might be slippery on the floor, clean it up immediately.
Keep nonskid mats both in and alongside the bathtub and shower.
When working around the house, wear safety goggles, earplugs, and protective clothing such as sturdy shoes and gloves when appropriate.
Make sure you read instructions carefully before using any tools or equipment.
Never leave safety guards off power tools.
