Safety on the Road
Make sure that you and all passengers in your car wear seatbelts.
Always place your children in appropriate car sets or restraints.
Do not drink any alcohol if you are driving, never ride with a driver who has been drinking.
Always drive within the speed limit and drive defensively.
Keep a safe distance between your car and one ahead of you- at least 3 feet for each mile-per- hour.
Avoid driving when you feel ill or unusually tired, or if you are taking medications that cause drowsiness.
Pull off the road and rest if you get sleepy while driving.
Have your car fully serviced either every 6,000 miles or at least every 6 months.
Carry a spare tire and a jack in your trunk at all times, and know how to change a flat tire.
If your car breaks down, pull as far off the road as possible.
Check at least once a week to make sure that your car windows, lights, mirrors, and reflectors are clean.
When walking on streets or open roads at dawn or dusk or in the dark, carry a flashlight and wear light- colored or reflective clothing.
