The city with the most blacks is New York, with 1,666,636, as of the 1970 census. The second largest 'black city' is Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo) with a population of 1,623,760.


Building with 115,000 people a day
About 35,000 people work in the 110-story-tall twin towers of the World Trade Center in downtown New York, and about 80,000 more visit on business every day.

Greatest City
Baghdad was once the greatest city of the world. It had a population of 2 million, and was larger even than Babylon in its prime. Baghdad's most glamorous and legendary period began in 786 A.D., when Harun al-Rashid, or "Aaron the Just," ascended the throne.

Fireproof city
La Paz, Bolivia, which is about 12,000 feet above sea level, is nearly a fireproof city, and the fire engines-- ordered out of civic pride--gather dust in their firehouses. At that altitude, the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere barely supports fire.

Telephones please ...
It wasn't too long ago--1977 to be axact--that Cairo, a city of 8 million people, had only 208,000 telephones and no telephone book. The phone system was said to have been practically worthless during the work day. Cairo businessmen often flew to Athens to place calls from hotels there.
