Long neck is beautiful The Padaung people of Burma believe that a long neck is beautiful. When a woman is young, she has a brass ring fastened around her neck. Over the years, rings are added until the neck becomes elongated and beauty is achieved. She also wears brass rings around her legs and daily carries around about 20 pounds of brass.
Wool - one of man's oldest garments Although wool is one of man's oldest fabrics - Babylonians used woolen clothes as early as 4,000 BC - it was unknown in America until 1540 when Coronado's expedition brought a few Spanish sheep to southwestern North America. British sheep were imported in 1609 by the colonies at Jamestown, and wool became, with flax, the basis of home made linsey-woolsey (rough linen and wool) frontier garments.
Laughing gas Using chemicals to get "high" is not as new as one may think. Nitrous Oxide was discovered in 1800. When inhaled, it was found to give a giddy, intoxicated feeling and to release the emotions. People laugh inanely, so it was called "laughing gas". For a while, parties were organised at which people sat around inhaling its fumes.
